Farmer Using Tablet

As a precision farmer, the buck stops with you. You have so many items to keep track of, from your equipment to your farming data, to the various conditions that lead to optimal yields. You’re kind of like a superhero, and even superheroes need a little help time and again.

Precision farming apps are designed to take some of the load off of your plate, making your job easier and allowing you to make the most efficient use of your time. To get you started, we’ve put together this list of the top five precision farming apps on the market today:

  1. eFarmer

eFarmer is a free farm management app with features that let you plan your daily farming activities, create an electronic map of your entire field, record relevant information and data points in a farm journal, and store data in the cloud. While the free version is limited to a single user, it’s a great way to test it out to see if it has the capabilities you’re seeking.

  1. Connected Farm Scout

Connected Farm Scout is one of a suite of precision agriculture apps from Trimble. This free scouting app lets you map field boundaries, mark flags, take pictures of pests, weeds, and diseases, and document necessary scouting information, all from your smartphone or tablet.

  1. MachineryGuide

A highly rated precision guidance app available on Android devices, MachineryGuide uses an antenna to enable your smartphone or tablet to act as a GPS system for your farm equipment. MachineryGuide offers a free demo version that allows you to manually enter position data and give the app a try, but to access its full features, you’ll need to invest in the company’s antenna and GPS receiver.

  1. FarmLogs

Available for both iOS and Android devices, FarmLogs is another multi-functional farm management application that provides farmers with valuable information for crop decision-making. FarmLogs uses satellite imagery to offer a full view of your fields, includes field-specific soil maps, provides rainfall and heat reports, and allows you to plan inputs and budgeting.

  1. iSOYL

Introduced in 2015, iSOYL is an app designed to simplify the variable rate application process. The app is compatible with several of the top spreading, spraying, and seeding controllers making variable rate application precise, easy, and cost-efficient. While the iSOYL demo is free, full use of all of the app’s features requires an investment in adaptors, cables, and software made by parent company, SOYL.

With new apps flooding the market every year, precision farming has never been more accessible. Precision farming apps are a perfect entry point for anyone interested in getting started with precision agriculture. Their ease of use, extensive logging and mapping capabilities, and compatibility with precision equipment make them helpful tools for achieving success and profitability with your precision farming efforts!
